British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will visit India in October to strengthen relations and boost cooperation across key sectors. His visit is expected to take place around the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai from October 7 to 9, diplomatic sources confirmed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Keir Starmer will hold summit-level talks during the trip. This meeting comes just two months after Modi travelled to the U.K. to attend the signing of the U.K.-India free trade agreement. The pact is now moving through Britain’s ratification process and will likely take effect in 2026.
Trade will be a major focus. Both leaders want to expand market access and create more opportunities for businesses. They are also negotiating a bilateral investment treaty to increase investor confidence. Officials believe the treaty could attract long-term investment into manufacturing, services, and technology.
Technology cooperation will also feature prominently. India and the U.K. announced a Technology Security Initiative last year to strengthen collaboration in digital systems and cybersecurity. Starmer’s presence at the Global Fintech Fest highlights the importance of fintech, digital trade, and innovation in shaping future ties.
Energy and climate change are also on the agenda. Both governments see clean energy and green technology as new areas for growth. Experts say that cooperation in these fields can create jobs while supporting climate goals.
Starmer’s visit will add momentum to these initiatives. His talks with Modi are expected to showcase the strength of the U.K.-India partnership and underline the commitment of both sides to build a modern, future-ready relationship.
