Kasba Assembly constituency in Purnia district has a rich political and cultural past. Once ruled by the Garhbaneli kings, it later became famous through Bollywood’s Teesri Kasam. Despite its heritage, the town has seen little government attention. Once home to factories and fairs, Kasba lost much of its industrial edge.
In politics, Congress dominated for decades. Leaders like A. Ahmed, Alijan Master, and Ramnarayan Mandal won repeatedly. Later, other parties like Janata Dal and BJP gained ground. Pradeep Kumar Das of BJP won in 1995 and 2000, while Afaq Alam of Congress emerged as a strong face since 2005. In 2020, Afaq Alam won again, defeating BJP’s Pradeep Kumar Das by 4,455 votes.
Congress highlights development issues such as roads, bridges, education, and health. Afaq Alam promises industrial growth and better facilities. However, BJP accuses him of neglect, claiming state and central governments drive most progress.
Kasba Assembly election remains a tough contest, with Congress fighting to retain its base and BJP pushing hard to reclaim lost ground. Voters will decide whether continuity or change will shape Kasba’s future.
