A longstanding rule prohibits individuals with more than two children from contesting in local elections, a regulation in place since 1995. This restriction aims to promote population control and responsible governance. Recently, Minister Seethakka had announced that the rule would be abolished, allowing candidates with three or more children to participate in elections.

However, no official government order (GO) has been issued yet. With the latest election schedule released, officials have clarified that elections will proceed under the existing rule, meaning candidates exceeding the two-child limit remain ineligible.

Authorities emphasized that while the government has removed this restriction in Andhra Pradesh, the elections in Telangana will continue to follow the old guidelines. Citizens and potential candidates are advised to comply with the current regulations to ensure a smooth electoral process. The issue highlights the gap between policy announcements and formal legal implementation.
