Don’t Blame Indian-Americans for India’s Diplomatic Failures
In recent times, Indian-Americans have faced undue criticism for India’s diplomatic setbacks, particularly in Western nations. This blame is misplaced and unfair. Indian-Americans, while proud of their heritage, are citizens of another country with diverse political beliefs and loyalties. Holding them accountable for India’s global missteps ignores the complexities of international diplomacy.
India’s foreign policy challenges stem from strategic decisions, geopolitical shifts, and domestic governance—not from the diaspora’s actions. In fact, Indian-Americans have often played a constructive role in strengthening U.S.-India relations, contributing as diplomats, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.
Blaming the diaspora deflects from necessary introspection within India’s diplomatic machinery. Instead of scapegoating, efforts should focus on building a more agile, transparent, and effective foreign policy. Diaspora communities should be seen as bridges, not barriers, in navigating global relationships. Responsible diplomacy requires accountability at home, not finger-pointing abroad.
