PM Modi Inaugurates Navi Mumbai International Airport Phase 1

Navi Mumbai International Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on Wednesday. Built at a cost of ₹19,650 crore under a Public-Private Partnership, the airport is designed to eventually handle 90 million passengers a year and become one of the most efficient in the world.

NMIA is India’s largest Greenfield airport project. It will feature an Automated People Mover (APM) for easy inter-terminal transfers, solar power systems, EV bus services, and even a first-of-its-kind water taxi connection. As Mumbai’s second international airport, it will share traffic with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), easing congestion and boosting Mumbai’s status as a global aviation hub.

Alongside NMIA, PM Modi will also inaugurate Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line-3, which runs from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade. The ₹37,270 crore project includes 27 stations and will carry up to 13 lakh passengers daily. To further improve urban transport, Modi will launch the “Mumbai One” app, which allows commuters to use a single ticket for metro, monorail, and suburban trains.

On October 9, Modi will host UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai. Both leaders will attend the CEO Forum and Global Fintech Fest, focusing on trade, technology, and sustainable finance.
