On Wednesday, Donald Trump was hosting a roundtable at the White House about Antifa when Secretary of State Marco Rubio passed him a note. The note, written on White House stationery, urged Trump to approve a Truth Social post quickly so he could announce a major deal first.
Rubio explained that negotiators were close to securing a peace agreement in the Middle East. Talks had been underway in Egypt between Trump’s adviser Steve Witkoff, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and other key officials. Their focus was reaching an end to the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas.
Even after reading the urgent message, Trump continued answering questions, though Rubio looked nervous. Finally, Trump told the group he needed to leave, saying, “We’re going to get peace in the Middle East.”
Hours later, at 6:51 p.m., Trump announced on Truth Social that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a peace plan. According to him, all hostages will be released soon and Israeli troops will withdraw to agreed positions.
Trump declared it a “historic and unprecedented event,” praising Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for helping. Critics note he often exaggerates his role in global peace efforts.
