$100,000 H-1B Fee Won’t Affect Extensions or Status Changes: USCIS
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has clarified that the newly proposed $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications will not apply to cases involving status changes or extensions. This announcement comes amid growing concern among foreign professionals and employers over the financial burden of the steep hike.
According to USCIS, the fee structure is intended for new cap-subject H-1B petitions and will not impact current H-1B holders seeking to extend their stay or change their visa status. Additionally, the recent presidential proclamation introducing the fee does not restrict H-1B holders from travelling in and out of the U.S.
The clarification offers some relief to thousands of H-1B workers already in the country, especially in the tech sector, who feared being caught in policy changes. However, uncertainty remains for future applicants navigating the evolving U.S. immigration landscape.
