Japan Eyes Indian Workforce to Tackle Ageing Population, Aims to Boost People-to-People Ties
Japan is increasingly seeking skilled Indian workers to address its rapidly ageing population, highlighting what officials describe as “perfect complementarity” between the two nations. While Japan faces labor shortages in healthcare, technology, and construction, India offers a young and talented workforce capable of filling these gaps. Officials from the Cabinet Secretariat and Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that both countries stand to benefit from enhanced labor mobility and skill-sharing initiatives. However, experts point out that people-to-people ties remain underdeveloped, with cultural exchange and bilateral engagement lagging behind economic and strategic cooperation. Efforts are underway to streamline visa procedures, expand training programs, and promote professional exchanges, aiming to make migration smoother and mutually beneficial. Strengthening these connections is seen as essential not only for meeting Japan’s workforce needs but also for deepening long-term diplomatic, economic, and social partnerships between the two Asian powers.
