China Calls for Deeper Industrial Cooperation with India Amid Western Pressure

China

China has urged India to pursue stronger industrial cooperation, saying New Delhi’s push for self-reliant manufacturing should create synergy, not rivalry. In an editorial, the state-run Global Times said Western media wrongly cast India’s manufacturing rise as a challenge to China instead of an opportunity for collaboration.

The paper argued that India’s industrial growth and China’s manufacturing strengths are complementary. “Industrial progress thrives on collaboration, not isolation,” it said, adding that India’s expansion “increases the need for international cooperation.”

This comes as both nations face Western pressure to realign global supply chains away from China while boosting India as an alternative hub. The Global Times cited India’s recent approval of seven projects worth $626 million under its electronic component manufacturing program. These facilities will produce camera modules and printed circuit boards, reducing import dependency and supporting exports.

China said cooperation in technology, supply chains, and production could speed India’s industrial upgrade. “The essence of self-reliance lies in enhancing competitiveness through global collaboration,” the editorial stated.

Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong echoed the view, calling for pragmatic engagement focused on development. The editorial concluded that “Make in India” and China’s manufacturing power can converge to drive shared growth.
