Over 2,100 Sikh Pilgrims Enter Pakistan for Guru Nanak Jayanti Celebrations
More than 2,100 Sikh pilgrims crossed into Pakistan on Tuesday, marking the first major religious crossing since the May border conflict, according to Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi.
The pilgrims will participate in a 10-day festival commemorating the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism. The celebrations will take place at key gurdwaras, including Nankana Sahib and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, two of Sikhism’s holiest sites.
Officials from both nations coordinated the arrangements to ensure smooth passage and security for the pilgrims. The visit is being viewed as a gesture of goodwill and a positive step toward maintaining people-to-people ties between India and Pakistan amid ongoing political tensions.
Authorities said special trains and accommodations have been arranged in Pakistan for the devotees, who will return after the celebrations conclude.
