MP Police Introduces Mandatory Bhagavad Gita Sessions for Trainee Constables

The Madhya Pradesh Police has made the recitation and study of the Bhagavad Gita mandatory for constables undergoing training across the state. According to an official circular, the sessions aim to instill moral values, discipline, and a sense of duty among trainees. The decision follows an earlier directive by the Additional Director General (Training), who had introduced the recital of Ramcharitmanas during the inauguration of training sessions in July. Police officials said that the initiative is part of a broader effort to promote ethical conduct and mental well-being among personnel. However, the move has drawn mixed reactions, with some welcoming it as a step toward character building, while others have questioned the inclusion of religious texts in police training. Senior officers clarified that the sessions are meant for value education and not religious propagation. The programme is expected to be implemented in all state police academies soon.
