Voting in the second phase of the Bihar Elections is set for November 11 in Bhagalpur. However, frustration over an incomplete infrastructure project has led residents of several localities to announce a boycott of the polls.
People in Ishakchak, Ishwarnagar, Kushwaha Vatika, and nearby colonies are refusing to vote due to the delay in constructing the approach road to the Bholanath Bridge flyover. Posters and pamphlets with boycott messages cover walls of homes, shops, and temples.
Residents say the government approved the flyover years ago, but despite repeated assurances, the approach road never materialized. This missing link has caused daily struggles, including traffic chaos and waterlogging. Around 1.5 lakh residents are affected, as ambulances and essential vehicles struggle to reach these areas.
Vipin Kumar Chaurasia said waterlogging disrupts school and office commutes. Vinay Kumar Singh added that people are deprived of the flyover’s benefits. Locals even informed the Election Commission and the Prime Minister about their decision to boycott.
SDO Vikas Kumar visited the site and said the land poses construction challenges but urged voters to participate in the democratic process.
