A woman named Munesh, at the centre of the “Brazilian model” voter ID controversy, told NDTV that one of the fake voter cards Rahul Gandhi showed this week is not hers. She said her real card has her own photo and that she voted in the Haryana election. “The card Rahul Gandhi showed doesn’t have my photo. I don’t know whose face that is,” she said.
On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi alleged massive voter fraud in Haryana, claiming 25 lakh fake votes were cast. He highlighted one voter ID that supposedly used a Brazilian woman’s photo to vote 22 times in the Rai constituency, where BJP’s Krishna Gahlawat defeated Congress’ Bhagwan Antil. Gandhi said the same image appeared under multiple names like Seema, Sweety, and Vimla.
The BJP dismissed the claims, with Kiren Rijiju accusing Gandhi of shifting focus from Bihar’s elections. Election Commission sources said Congress never filed an official complaint during the result review.
The Brazilian woman, identified as Larissa Nery, said she was shocked to see her eight-year-old photo used. “They’re using my old photo in India for something about voting. What madness!” she said in a viral video.
