Pakistan-Afghanistan Talks Conclude Without Agreement on Counter-Terror Action
The third round of talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan ended without any concrete agreement, as Islamabad failed to secure a written commitment from Kabul to act against Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants operating from Afghan soil. The two-day dialogue, held in Islamabad, focused on cross-border terrorism, regional security, and intelligence cooperation. Pakistani officials reiterated their demand for decisive Afghan action against TTP sanctuaries, which they claim are responsible for recent attacks inside Pakistan. Afghan representatives, however, emphasized the need for mutual trust and denied harboring militant groups. Despite the lack of a breakthrough, both sides agreed to continue diplomatic engagement and strengthen border coordination mechanisms. The stalled talks underscore the growing strain between the neighboring countries, even as both face mounting internal security challenges. Analysts say continued dialogue is essential to prevent further escalation and promote stability along the volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
