Bihar Election Voting Breaks Record as Women Lead the Polls

Bihar Election Voting Breaks Record

Bihar witnessed a historic voter turnout in the first phase of assembly elections on November 6. Polling was held for 121 seats across 18 districts, recording a massive 65.08% turnout—the highest in the state’s history. Women voters once again outshined men, marking a strong presence at the ballot box.

Women cast 69.04% of the votes, surpassing men’s 61.56% turnout by nearly 8%. Meenapur recorded the highest overall turnout at 77.54%, while Kumhrar saw the lowest at 40.17%. Among men, the highest voting percentage was in Bochahan at 73.78%, and the lowest again in Kumhrar at 41.10%. For women, Meenapur topped with 82.49%, while Kumhrar lagged behind at 39.19%.

This year’s turnout is nearly 8% higher than the 2020 elections, where only 56.93% of voters participated. Over the last 25 years, Bihar’s voter turnout had never crossed 57%. Notably, women have been leading voter participation since 2010, a shift that boosted overall polling figures in successive elections.

The growing participation of women continues to redefine Bihar’s political landscape, reflecting a deepening democratic engagement across the state.
