Imam Irfan Ahmad, a resident of Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir, has been identified as the mastermind behind the terror module busted in Haryana’s Faridabad. Police said Ahmad, once a paramedical staff member at Government Medical College in Srinagar, played a key role in radicalizing young medical students.
Ahmad reportedly met several students at a mosque in Nowgam, where he began influencing them with extremist ideas. Inspired by the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), he regularly showed his followers JeM propaganda videos. Investigators said he also contacted individuals in Afghanistan through VoIP calls, aiming to implant extremist beliefs deeply in students’ minds.
Two doctors, Muzammil Shakeel and Mohammad Umar, were central to executing his plans. According to sources, Umar carried out the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort in panic after the Faridabad module was exposed. The explosion killed nine people on Monday.
Dr. Shaheen Sayeed from Lucknow has emerged as the financier and supporter of the group. She taught at Al-Falah University and allegedly served as the India commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed’s women’s wing, Jamaat-ul-Mominaat.
Security agencies believe Ahmad’s network was designed to spread radical ideology across educational institutions.
