A major uproar broke out in East Champaran, Bihar, after East Champaran VVPAT slips were discovered at a polling station in Sugauli. Locals gathered in large numbers, suspecting vote tampering and demanding answers from the officials. The incident took place at polling station number 219, located at the upgraded middle school in Nimuya, Ward 12 of Sugauli.
Soon after the East Champaran VVPAT slips discovery, police, paramilitary forces, and candidates from all parties rushed to the spot. District officials, including SDO Shweta Bharti, inspected the situation closely. They found 172 slips, which were likely mock poll slips used for testing the machines before voting began.
Authorities clarified that these slips were accidentally left behind by the presiding officer during post-poll cleaning. The incident created panic among the voters, but officials confirmed that no real votes were affected. An investigation has been launched to ensure transparency.
Voting in East Champaran was conducted in the second phase, with over 65 percent voter turnout. The situation has now been brought under control, and the administration has assured strict action against any negligence.
