The Aam Aadmi Party scored a decisive victory in the Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll as Harmeet Singh Sandhu secured a lead of 12,091 votes. Sandhu held a strong advantage from the early rounds of counting and sustained it until the final round. His win gives AAP a boost as the party continues to strengthen its position in Punjab.
SAD candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa mounted a spirited challenge but finished second after trailing through most of the day. Independent candidate Mandeep Singh, backed by Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), also remained a notable contender. Congress candidate Karanbir Singh Burj and BJP candidate Harjit Singh Sandhu followed in the tally.
Fifteen candidates contested the seat. Counting began at 8 am at the International College of Nursing in Piddi and concluded after 16 rounds. The constituency reported a voter turnout of 60.95 percent. The bypoll took place after the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June.
The result shows strong support for AAP in the region and marks an important checkpoint for the ruling party’s political momentum in Punjab.
