A major accident in Pune on Thursday claimed eight lives and injured fifteen others. Two trucks collided near the Navale Bridge and crushed a four-wheeler trapped between them. One truck caught fire soon after the impact, while photos from the scene showed the mangled car stuck between both vehicles.
Fire engines reached the spot within minutes and began rescue and firefighting operations. The crash halted traffic on the national highway and created a massive jam that stretched for several kilometres. Officials cleared the route only after getting the flames under control and moving the damaged vehicles.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced ₹5 lakh compensation for each victim’s family. He also assured support for the injured.
The Pune tragedy came only days after another serious truck incident in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur district. A truck carrying over 100 LPG cylinders overturned while taking a sharp curve. The driver braked suddenly to avoid a stray dog, causing the vehicle to topple into a roadside drain. The cylinders collided on impact and triggered multiple explosions that sent fireballs into the air.
Driver Kanagaraj escaped the burning truck and ran for safety. Locals helped him reach medical care, and doctors are treating his injuries.
