The retreat ceremony timing changed at the Attari-Wagah border because of shifting weather. The Border Security Force now starts the 30-minute event at 4:30 pm. Visitors should reach the venue at least 30 minutes before the parade. They must also carry an identity card, preferably an Aadhaar card. The retreat ceremony timing changed to give people better comfort and clearer visibility.
The daily ceremony draws huge crowds. Many tourists travel long distances to watch the lively parade and the lowering of the national flags by India and Pakistan. The new schedule aims to make the experience smooth and safe for everyone who attends.
Abohar also hosted a major marathon to raise awareness about drug abuse. More than 10,000 runners joined the event. The marathon is part of the campaign “Nashon se Door, Khelon ki Aur”, started nearly twenty years ago by Surinder Jakhar, former chairman of IFFCO.
The Jakhar Trust organised the sixth edition of the run. Rudrashree, great granddaughter-in-law of former Lok Sabha Speaker Bal Ram Jakhar, gave medals to the winners. The trust awarded Rs 1.7 lakh in total prize money. The organisers want to guide young people toward sports and away from drugs through such events.
