Kerala HC Rejects Vinu’s Voter List Plea; Vyshna Suresh Restored by SEC

The Kerala High Court has rejected filmmaker V.M. Vinu’s plea seeking inclusion of his name in the electoral roll for the Kozhikode local body elections. Vinu, the Congress party’s mayoral candidate, had challenged the deletion of his name from the voter list, citing procedural irregularities. However, the court dismissed the petition, marking a setback for the party in Kozhikode.
In contrast, the State Election Commission (SEC) restored the name of Vyshna Suresh, another Congress candidate, to the electoral roll, providing relief and enabling her to contest the elections. The contrasting outcomes highlight a day of fluctuating fortunes for the Congress in Kerala ahead of the local body polls.
The SEC’s interventions and court rulings on voter eligibility continue to play a decisive role in shaping the candidate list, underscoring the importance of compliance with electoral procedures and timely resolution of disputes for smooth conduct of the elections.
