The Goa Women’s Panel resolves 579 cases in two years, showing strong commitment to women’s safety and justice across the State. The Goa Women’s Panel resolves 579 cases between April 2023 and October 2025, averaging 19 cases every month.
The Commission heard 1,194 cases during this period. It also took suo-moto action in 14 matters. When Chairperson Ranjita Pai took charge in April 2023, 322 cases were pending. The team worked steadily and cleared 312 of them, leaving only 10 under hearing.
At present, 95 cases remain open. Most complaints relate to domestic violence, often involving husbands or family members. The panel also handles issues like gender discrimination, sexual harassment, mental harassment, and unfair treatment.
The Commission has increased its outreach efforts. Over the last 20 months, it organised 80 workshops for colleges, self-help groups, and panchayats. These sessions teach women about their rights, domestic violence laws, cyber safety, gender equality, and health topics like diet and nutrition.
In rare but meaningful action, the panel conducted 38 hearings at complainants’ homes when they could not travel.
The Commission will hold a public hearing on November 29 in Zambaulim with support from the lawyers’ collective. The event aims to guide women on legal and social concerns and offer support.
