Delhi District Boundary Redraw: Govt Plans 13 Revenue Districts With New Names

Proposed new map showing 13 revenue districts under the Delhi district boundary redraw plan

The Delhi government has started a major Delhi District Boundary Redraw to improve administration and make services easier for citizens. The number of revenue districts may rise from 11 to 13, and several districts may get new names. Officials say the new structure will reduce confusion and bring district limits closer to the city’s real population spread.

According to the draft prepared by the Revenue Department, the government plans to rename and reorganise many districts. The proposed list includes Civil Lines, Karol Bagh, Rohini, Narela, Najafgarh, Keshavpuram, Shahdara North, and Shahdara South. Existing names like Central Delhi, New Delhi, South Delhi, and West Delhi will continue.

Under the Delhi District Boundary Redraw, the government will also increase the number of sub-divisions. SDM offices may rise from 33 to 39. This move aims to bring officials closer to local communities and reduce delays in public services. People often face problems because district boundaries and municipal zones do not match. The new draft tries to solve this by aligning district borders with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) zones.

Officials believe the new setup will speed up work related to land records, certificates, registrations, and other public-facing services. It may also help reduce long queues at district offices. The government plans to send the final proposal to the Lieutenant Governor for approval. Once cleared, the new district map will come into force through an official notification.

Residents can expect smoother services, clearer boundaries, and better coordination between departments once the reorganisation begins.
