Rumours surrounding Imran Khan’s health—and even claims of his death—continued to trigger tension across Pakistan on Friday. The situation escalated after his sister, Aleema Khan, filed a contempt of court petition in the Islamabad High Court against Adiala Jail authorities for denying her permission to meet the jailed former prime minister.
Aleema cited a March 24 court order that restored the twice-a-week meeting schedule, alleging “wilful non-implementation” by the jail administration. Despite clear directions to allow visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays, she said authorities repeatedly blocked access, raising serious concerns about Imran Khan’s health and safety.
Aleema, accompanied by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and PTI leaders, even staged a 16-hour sit-in outside the prison after again being denied entry.
Tensions remain high as nearly 700 security personnel have been deployed outside Adiala Jail, where PTI supporters gather demanding proof of Khan’s wellbeing. Jail officials insist he is in “good health,” though he has not been seen publicly for weeks.
In parliament, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry claimed Khan is receiving facilities, including a personal chef, unavailable to other inmates.
