Harish Rao Slams Govt. for Costly New Thermal Power Plans
BRS leader T. Harish Rao criticised the Congress government for proposing new thermal power projects that he claimed would impose an additional burden of ₹82,000 crore on the people of Telangana. He questioned the need for fresh plants when the NTPC Telangana-dedicated project is already ready to supply power at competitive rates. According to him, opting for new thermal units instead of utilising the available NTPC capacity would result in unnecessary financial strain on the State and its citizens.
Harish Rao argued that the government should prioritise cost-effective options rather than pushing projects that could escalate public debt and lead to higher power tariffs. He alleged that the decision lacked transparency and did not take long-term implications into account. The BRS leader demanded that the government justify the rationale behind such massive investments when more economical and readily available sources of power could meet Telangana’s energy needs.
