Bihar ranks first in free medicines, marking a major milestone in public healthcare. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bihar ranks first in free medicines for the second consecutive year. The state has moved ahead of Rajasthan and Punjab by ensuring consistent access to essential drugs for its citizens.
Bihar achieved 81.35 points in the latest report, while Rajasthan scored 77.77 and Punjab 71.80. The government has focused on improving medicine supply so that no patient stops treatment because of unavailability. This progress has reduced people’s dependency on private pharmacies.
To strengthen the system, 165 GPS-enabled medical vans are operating across Bihar. They deliver medicines on time to government hospitals and rural health centres. Every health institution now has a QR code that lets patients check which medicines are available. With around 10,626 government health centres and nearly 65 million annual patient visits, a large number of people receive free medicines every year.
