Join Democracy, Not Violence, Venkaiah Naidu Tells Maoists
Former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu has appealed to Maoists to shun violence and join the democratic mainstream, stressing that armed struggle only harms innocent lives and hampers development. Speaking in Vijayawada, he said that India’s democratic framework offers ample space for dissent, dialogue, and peaceful resolution of grievances, and urged Maoist groups to participate in this process rather than resort to extremism.
Mr. Naidu emphasised that violence has stalled progress in several tribal and rural regions, depriving local communities of opportunities in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He called on Maoists to recognise the changing aspirations of youth, who increasingly seek stability, growth, and integration with the wider society.
Reiterating that democracy thrives on debate and constructive engagement, he urged extremist groups to abandon weapons and return to the negotiating table. Only through peace, he said, can long-term development and justice be achieved for vulnerable populations.
