Russian President Vladimir Putin visited India on 4–5 December, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed him with great warmth. The two leaders met three times within 24 hours, and PM Modi presented Putin with six exceptional gifts showcasing India’s cultural richness, craftsmanship, and regional heritage.
The first gift was Assam Black Tea, known for its strong malty flavour and bright liquor. Grown in the fertile plains of the Brahmaputra valley, Assam tea received the GI tag in 2007 and represents a blend of land, climate, and tradition.
Putin was also presented with a beautifully crafted edition of Srimad Bhagavad Gita, symbolising India’s timeless spiritual wisdom that continues to inspire ethical living and mental discipline.
A handcrafted marble chess set from Agra, featuring inlaid motifs and semi-precious stones under the ODOP initiative, highlighted India’s traditional stone craftsmanship.
PM Modi also gifted Kashmiri saffron, locally known as Kong or Zafran—famous for its rich aroma, deep colour, and heritage value.
A finely carved Murshidabad silver tea set from West Bengal was included, celebrating the tea culture cherished in both India and Russia.
The sixth gift was a handcrafted silver horse from Maharashtra, symbolising strength, dignity, and the ever-growing India–Russia partnership.
