Karnataka Solarises 3,600 Health Centres Under Saura Swasthya Initiative
Karnataka has emerged as a leader in solarising public health facilities, with over 3,600 centres now running on solar power under the Saura Swasthya initiative. The project aims to provide uninterrupted electricity to government hospitals and health centres, ensuring better healthcare services for rural populations.
Officials said the initiative is expected to benefit more than three crore residents in the State by powering essential medical equipment, cold storage for vaccines, and lighting, even during power outages. The solarisation drive is part of Karnataka’s broader effort to promote renewable energy and sustainable development in public infrastructure.
The Health and Renewable Energy Departments are collaborating to expand the project further, targeting additional health facilities across rural areas. Authorities highlighted that the initiative not only improves healthcare delivery but also reduces electricity costs and carbon emissions, contributing to environmental sustainability. Karnataka’s model is being seen as a benchmark for other states aiming to strengthen rural healthcare while promoting green energy.
