During this monsoon season, analysts estimate that approximately 1,300 TMC of Godavari water is being released from the Dowleswaram Barrage in Andhra Pradesh. Currently, around 13 lakh cusecs of water are flowing directly into the sea.
The flooding is not limited to the main Godavari River; its tributaries, including Pranahita, Indravati, Sabari, and Manjeera, are also experiencing heavy water discharge. This has caused concern among residents and water management experts.
Many social media users have criticized the state government, claiming that valuable water is being wasted instead of being utilized effectively. To address this, the government has reportedly proposed constructing additional barrages and reservoirs to store and manage floodwaters efficiently.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to reduce damage to agricultural lands, settlements, and infrastructure, while planners consider long-term measures to improve water utilization and prevent wastage in future monsoon seasons.
