Following a crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, Tej Pratap Yadav JJD expansion has become the new political talking point. Despite failing to win a single seat, Tej Pratap has announced plans to take his party, the Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), beyond Bihar.
The former Bihar minister said the JJD will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. Bengal is set to go to polls in 2026, while Uttar Pradesh will vote in 2027. Tej Pratap confirmed that candidates will be fielded in both states.
Tej Pratap, the elder son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, formed the JJD earlier this year after being expelled from the RJD and the family fold. In the recent Bihar elections, he contested from the Mahua seat in Vaishali district but lost.
In an interview with Aaj Tak, he revealed that a nationwide membership drive is already underway. He said the focus is on building the organisation from the ground up.
After the defeat, he extended moral support to the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar. The Centre also granted him Y-plus security last month, sparking political debate.
For now, Tej Pratap Yadav JJD expansion continues, with no alliance announced yet.
