Objections against ward delimitation prompt legislators to approach GHMC
Objections against ward delimitation prompted legislators from Congress, BRS, and BJP to make a beeline to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Monday. Leaders submitted representations highlighting several concerns related to the proposed reorganisation of wards.
The legislators flagged issues such as voter imbalance between wards, unclear criteria used for delimitation, and the absence of consultation with sitting MLAs and corporators. They argued that some wards have disproportionately high voter populations, while others fall well below acceptable limits, which could affect fair representation.
Leaders said transparency was lacking in the delimitation process and urged GHMC officials to revisit the proposals. They also demanded that population data, geographical continuity, and administrative convenience be clearly explained before finalising ward boundaries.
GHMC officials said they have received more than 1,300 suggestions and objections from political parties, public representatives, and residents so far. December 17 has been set as the deadline for submission of objections, after which the proposals will be reviewed. Objections against ward delimitation continue to pour in as parties intensify their engagement with the civic body. Officials assured that all representations would be examined before a final decision is taken.
