Patna property tax increase will affect nearly 5,500 houses and commercial establishments following the reclassification of 19 major roads by the Patna Municipal Corporation. The decision aims to align tax rates with improved infrastructure and traffic importance. The Patna property tax increase comes into force from the current financial year.
The civic body has upgraded these 19 roads to the “principal main road” category. Properties located along these roads will now attract higher tax rates compared to earlier slabs. As a result, residential and commercial owners will see an increase of around 1.5 times in their annual property tax.
Officials said the road reclassification is part of a city-wide review. In total, 112 roads have been reassessed, and 43 have been placed in the highest category due to better connectivity and higher commercial activity.
To ensure timely collections, special municipal teams will conduct door-to-door visits. Property owners with pending dues have been urged to clear payments under the One-Time Settlement scheme, which offers relief from penalties and interest.
The revised structure will also impact commercial properties such as hotels, private hospitals, gyms, banks, and warehouses. The corporation expects the move to strengthen civic revenue and support urban development projects.
