Rajasthan has achieved a major milestone in wildlife conservation with its first-ever tiger translocation. A tigress from Madhya Pradesh’s Pench Tiger Reserve has been shifted to Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Bundi district.
The Indian Air Force deployed an MI-17 helicopter to transport the tigress from Pench to Jaipur. From Jaipur airport, forest officials moved the animal by road under strict security protocols. The tigress reached Ramgarh Vishdhari safely late at night.
A team of wildlife experts worked in Pench for nearly 25 days to complete the operation. They tracked the tigress, conducted health checks, and fitted a radio collar. At one point, the mission faced challenges when the tigress moved deeper into the forest. The team later used trained elephants to safely tranquilise her.
Officials described the operation as a landmark step for Rajasthan’s conservation efforts. The tigress will remain inside the Bajaliya enclosure initially. Forest staff will closely monitor her health, safety, and movement.
Earlier attempts at tiger translocation in India faced setbacks. This successful shift now opens new possibilities for strengthening tiger populations. Conservationists believe the move will boost biodiversity and secure Ramgarh Vishdhari’s future as a tiger habitat.
