Ramchander Rao Accuses Congress of Targeting BJP with ‘Karnataka-style’ Hate Law
BJP leader Ramchander Rao has alleged that the Congress party is attempting to target the BJP through the introduction of a “Karnataka-style” hate law. Speaking in Hyderabad, he claimed that the proposed legislation is being framed to suppress political dissent and penalise BJP leaders and supporters under the guise of preventing hate speech.
Ramchander Rao argued that such laws, if misused, could threaten free speech and create an atmosphere of political intimidation. He drew parallels with similar legislation in Karnataka, which he said had been criticised for being applied selectively against opposition parties.
The BJP leader urged the government to reconsider the draft law and ensure that any measures to address hate speech are balanced, transparent, and do not become tools for political vendettas. He emphasised that robust debate and criticism are essential components of a healthy democracy, and laws should protect, not restrict, democratic freedoms.
He further warned that misuse of the law could have serious political and social consequences
