Nurses Continue Protest Despite Government Offer of 723 New Posts
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian on Monday announced the creation of 723 new nursing posts in an effort to address the demands of protesting nurses. The announcement was made amid ongoing protests by nurses affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Nurses Empowerment Association, who have been pressing for better service conditions, regularisation, and improved career prospects.
The Minister said the new posts would strengthen the public healthcare system and help reduce workload in government hospitals. He added that the government was committed to resolving nurses’ issues through constructive dialogue and had already taken several steps to improve working conditions in recent years.
However, the protesting nurses said the offer was not sufficient and decided to continue their agitation. They demanded detailed negotiations with the government, seeking clarity on appointments, promotions, and long-term policy measures. The association stated that assurances alone were not enough and called for written commitments. Talks are expected to continue as the government attempts to resolve the impasse without affecting healthcare services.
