A major plane crash in Turkey has claimed the lives of seven people, including Libya’s military chief. Libya’s Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh confirmed the tragedy on Tuesday evening. The accident occurred when a Libyan delegation was returning after an official visit to Ankara.
According to Libyan authorities, the private Falcon 50 jet took off from Ankara and lost contact nearly 30 minutes later. The aircraft was carrying Libyan military chief Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, four senior officials, and three crew members. All onboard died in the crash.
Prime Minister Dbeibeh described the incident as accidental and deeply painful for Libya. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and called the loss a serious blow to the nation. Initial findings suggest that a technical malfunction caused the crash, though a full investigation is still underway.
Turkish officials stated that the Libyan delegation had visited Ankara for high-level defense talks. The visit aimed to strengthen military cooperation between Turkey and Libya. Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya earlier confirmed that wreckage of the jet was found near Ankara.
Authorities from both countries are coordinating to determine the exact cause of the crash. The incident has shocked Libya’s political and military circles, highlighting the risks involved in official air travel.
