Centre Urges States to Use PPP Model to Boost Healthcare Infrastructure: J.P. Nadda

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has called upon States to effectively leverage the potential of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery. In a letter addressed to Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar, Mr. Nadda said the Centre was extending substantial financial support for PPP-based healthcare projects under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme.
He explained that under the scheme, up to 60% of the total project cost would be borne jointly by the Union and State governments, making large-scale healthcare projects financially viable and attractive for private participation. The initiative, he noted, aims to bridge critical gaps in medical infrastructure, particularly in underserved and rural areas.
Mr. Nadda emphasised that PPP projects could accelerate the establishment of medical colleges, hospitals, and diagnostic facilities while ensuring quality and affordability. He urged the State government to identify suitable projects and expedite proposals to fully utilise the scheme. The Union Health Minister reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to working closely with States to enhance access to quality healthcare for all citizens.
