AP to Deliver Medicines to Tribal Hospitals Using Drones
The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to supply essential medicines to hospitals in remote tribal regions using drone technology, in a move aimed at improving healthcare access in hard-to-reach areas. The innovative initiative will be operated with Paderu, located in the Alluri Sitarama Raju district, serving as the central hub for drone operations. Services are scheduled to commence by the end of next month.
Officials said the use of drones would significantly reduce delivery time for critical medicines, vaccines, and emergency medical supplies to interior tribal habitations where road connectivity is poor or unreliable, especially during the monsoon season. The project is expected to strengthen last-mile healthcare delivery and ensure timely availability of life-saving drugs in government hospitals and primary health centres.
The initiative forms part of the State government’s broader efforts to integrate advanced technology into public service delivery. By adopting drone-based logistics, Andhra Pradesh aims to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve health outcomes in tribal and remote regions, ensuring equitable access to medical care.
