Syria Mosque Blast Kills at least eight people after an explosion ripped through a mosque in Homs during Friday prayers. The blast occurred inside the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque, linked to the Alawite minority community.
Local officials said the explosion struck around midday, the busiest prayer time of the week. Security forces quickly cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Initial findings suggest an explosive device had been planted inside the mosque.
The Syrian Health Ministry confirmed that more than 20 people suffered injuries. Officials warned that the death toll could rise as several victims remain in critical condition. Emergency teams rushed the wounded to nearby hospitals.
State media outlet SANA released footage showing heavy debris scattered across the mosque. Rescue workers and security personnel were seen clearing rubble and assisting survivors. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the bombing. It described the incident as a cowardly terrorist act aimed at destabilising the country. The ministry reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to fighting terrorism in all forms.
Sectarian violence has increased in Syria since the removal of former president Bashar al-Assad last year. Assad belongs to the Alawite sect. A Sunni-majority government later assumed power. Earlier this month, a separate attack in central Syria killed two US soldiers.
