Kamlesh from Bihar received the National Child Award posthumously for his extraordinary courage and selfless act that cost him his life. The young boy from Kaimur district became a symbol of bravery across the country.
The incident happened when Kamlesh saw another child drowning in the Durgawati river. Without waiting for help, he jumped into the fast-flowing water. He managed to push the child to safety but lost his life during the rescue.
Kamlesh was only 11 years old. Locals remembered him as a kind and fearless child who always helped others. His brave decision in those critical moments saved a life and shocked the entire village.
On Veer Bal Diwas in New Delhi, the President of India honoured Kamlesh with the Prime Minister’s National Child Award for bravery. His father received the award on his behalf during the ceremony.
The recognition brought pride and tears to the family. They said Kamlesh never thought about himself before helping others.
