Amit Shah inaugurates Guwahati Police Office as the Union Home Minister strengthened the city’s security infrastructure on Monday. Shah opened the newly constructed Guwahati Police Commissionerate building, built at a cost of ₹111 crore.
The modern facility aims to improve policing efficiency and coordination across the city. Officials said the new office will help police respond faster and manage law and order more effectively.
Along with the building, Shah also launched a citywide surveillance system. The system includes 2,000 CCTV cameras installed at key locations across Guwahati. Authorities expect the network to enhance crime monitoring and public safety.
During his visit, the Home Minister inaugurated a special exhibition at the new police office. Assam’s Criminal Investigation Department organised the exhibition. It showcased the implementation of new criminal laws and modern policing practices.
Shah interacted with senior police officers and reviewed the facilities inside the commissionerate. Officials briefed him on how technology will support crime prevention and investigation.
The Home Minister said strong policing infrastructure plays a vital role in maintaining public trust. He added that the central government remains committed to strengthening internal security in the Northeast.
The inauguration marks a significant step toward modern and technology-driven policing in Assam.
