Chandigarh Police New Year security measures have been stepped up to ensure safe and orderly celebrations across the city. In the interest of public safety, police have declared ten busy roads as no-vehicle zones on New Year’s Eve. The restrictions will remain in force from 9:30 pm on December 31 until 2:00 am on January 1, 2026.
Senior police officials said the move aims to prevent unruly behaviour, drunken driving, and hooliganism during peak celebration hours. Police identified these areas as crowd-sensitive zones where large gatherings are expected late at night.
The roads declared no-vehicle zones include Inner Market Roads of Sectors 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Police have also restricted traffic on the road in front of Leisure Valley, Sector 10. Internal roads of Sectors 17 and 22 will remain closed to vehicles during the notified hours. The stretch from Aroma Light Point to the small roundabout near the Sector 22 Dispensary will also stay shut. In addition, the area surrounding Elante Mall in Industrial Area Phase 1 will remain vehicle-free.
Police will deploy additional personnel at checkpoints and diversion points to guide commuters. Authorities have advised residents to plan travel in advance and use designated parking areas. Police have urged citizens to cooperate and celebrate responsibly to welcome the New Year safely.
