Delhi High Court Flags Unauthorized Commercial Use of Pawan Kalyan’s Persona
The Delhi High Court has found prima facie evidence suggesting a violation of actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan’s personality rights. The court observed that several defendants were allegedly using Mr. Kalyan’s name, image, voice, and likeness to promote and sell merchandise for commercial purposes, either directly or through e-commerce platforms.
The judge noted that such actions potentially infringe on the actor-politician’s legal rights to control the commercial use of his persona. The court’s observations came in response to a petition filed by Pawan Kalyan seeking protection against unauthorised exploitation of his identity.
Legal experts said the case highlights the increasing need to safeguard personality rights in the digital and e-commerce era, where images and content can be widely misused for profit. The court is expected to issue further directions to restrain the defendants from continuing such commercial activities until the matter is fully adjudicated, ensuring Mr. Kalyan’s rights are protected.
