The central government has carried out a major administrative reshuffle in the AGMUT cadre, transferring three senior IPS officers and appointing new police chiefs in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the transfer order on January 2, 2026, and enforced it with immediate effect.
IPS officer Mukesh Singh, a 1996-batch officer, has taken charge as the new Director General of Police of Ladakh. He replaces S.D. Singh Jamwal, who has moved to Arunachal Pradesh as the state’s new DGP. Mukesh Singh currently serves with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and brings extensive field experience to the strategically sensitive region.
Before joining the ITBP, Singh served as Inspector General of Police, Jammu Range, and later as Additional Director General of Police. He originally belonged to the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, which later merged into the AGMUT cadre after the abrogation of Article 370.
S.D. Singh Jamwal, a 1995-batch IPS officer, will now head the Arunachal Pradesh Police. He replaces Anand Mohan, a 1994-batch officer, who has been relieved from his post and directed to report to Delhi. Officials indicated that Delhi Police may absorb him.
The Home Ministry stated that competent authority approved the reshuffle. It has informed all concerned states and Union Territories. Observers see this move as a significant leadership realignment within the AGMUT police structure.
