Transport unions from several Indian states have united against policies they say weaken public transport services. Unions from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will hold an emergency meeting on January 12 in Chandigarh. They plan to decide a joint strategy to protect workers’ rights and save government-run transport systems.
Senior leaders from five state transport unions held a video conference recently. They discussed harmful state policies and growing injustice faced by transport employees. Leaders raised serious concerns over alleged harassment of temporary PUNBUS and PRTC workers in Punjab. They criticised illegal notices and what they called false cases against employees.
Union leaders also condemned the Himachal Pradesh government for delaying salaries and pending demands for months. They accused the Haryana government of ignoring roadways employees and unresolved demands for four years. The meeting demanded immediate withdrawal of orders issued against temporary Punjab Roadways staff.
The unions discussed common problems affecting Punjab Roadways, Haryana Roadways, Himachal Roadways, and Uttar Pradesh Roadways. They unanimously decided to convene an all-India transport unions meeting in Chandigarh on January 12. The goal is to stop privatisation and defend public transport services.
Meanwhile, Haryana Roadways workers announced an “Insaaf March” on January 18, 2026, in Ambala. Gate meetings are underway across Haryana depots. Haryana Roadways Joint Front spokesperson Sudhir Ahlawat coordinated the video meeting.
