Delhi govt drives welfare push despite facing administrative inertia, Lt. Governor V.K. Saxena said on Monday while addressing the winter session of the Delhi Assembly. He said the BJP-led government has focused firmly on public welfare during its first 10 months in office.
The L-G said healthcare, education, infrastructure, and Yamuna rejuvenation remain top priorities. He added that resistance and negativity within parts of the administration posed the biggest challenge. However, the government continued to move forward with reforms.
In healthcare, the Delhi government issued 6.72 lakh Ayushman Bharat health cards. These include 2.62 lakh Vay Vandana cards for senior citizens. Authorities also operationalised 383 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the city. These centres now provide basic treatment, diagnostics, and preventive care at the local level.
Meanwhile, the government made strong investments in infrastructure. It allocated ₹28,000 crore for roads, flyovers, and urban projects. Engineers completed the Nand Nagri flyover ahead of schedule. Officials expect the Barapullah elevated corridor to open by May this year, easing traffic congestion in key areas.
The L-G also stressed the government’s focus on cleaning the Yamuna river. He said the administration launched sewage treatment projects and strengthened pollution control measures. According to him, river rejuvenation remains central to Delhi’s environmental recovery plan.
Education and civic services also received attention. The government improved school infrastructure and expanded digital services to increase efficiency and transparency.
However, the Assembly session witnessed disruptions. Several AAP MLAs attempted to interrupt the address. Speaker Vijender Gupta later marshalled them out to restore order.
L-G Saxena concluded by saying that despite inherited challenges, the Delhi government remains committed to development, public welfare, and long-term reforms.
