Himachal Govt clears 980 compassionate appointments in a landmark decision aimed at providing long-pending relief to families of deceased government employees. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the move, calling it a people-centric reform under the state’s flagship ‘Vyavastha Parivartan’ programme.
The government processed these cases during a special relaxation period from October 1 to December 31, 2025. This window helped departments clear files that remained stuck for years. As a result, hundreds of families finally received employment support and financial security.
Out of the total appointments, 366 candidates received Class-III posts, while 614 were appointed to Class-IV positions. These included JOA (IT) and Multi-Task Workers (MTWs). Importantly, the Jal Shakti Vibhag accounted for the highest number with 419 appointments. It was followed by the Public Works Department with 175 cases and the Education Department with 128 approvals.
Additionally, several other departments benefited from the drive. These included Home, Health and Family Welfare, Animal Husbandry, Fire Services, Revenue, Urban Development, Rural Development, and HRTC. The government prioritised departments with heavy backlogs to ensure quicker justice.
CM Sukhu said the Himachal Govt clears 980 compassionate appointments to restore dignity to families who lost their sole earning member. He stressed that compassion, not delay, should guide governance. Furthermore, he criticised the previous BJP government for failing to resolve these cases on time.
“This is not just about jobs. It is about respect and empathy,” the Chief Minister said. He added that his government will not allow families to suffer due to bureaucratic hurdles.
Moreover, the initiative reflects the administration’s broader focus on transparency and timely decision-making. Under Vyavastha Parivartan, the state aims to reform systems that caused hardship to ordinary citizens.
The government reiterated its commitment to ensure that no eligible family waits endlessly for compassionate support. Officials confirmed that similar reviews will continue to prevent future backlogs.
