Congress Rajya Sabha member Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday (January 6, 2026) warned that drug abuse has spread widely across Haryana, posing a serious threat to the state’s younger generation. He blamed the BJP-led government for failing to control the crisis.
In a post on X, Surjewala said drugs have reached villages, towns, and residential colonies, creating a major social problem. He added that elderly villagers now track the names of youths who have died due to drug addiction.
“These deaths are not statistics; they represent broken families and ruined futures,” he said. Surjewala accused the government of declaring several villages “drug-free” on paper while drug abuse continues unchecked in reality. He said anti-drug campaigns often focus on publicity rather than real action.
He also highlighted that drug mafias have built a strong supply network. They distribute synthetic drugs and misuse medical drugs, reaching almost every district and village in Haryana.
Surjewala urged authorities to strengthen law enforcement, launch genuine awareness campaigns, and take strict action against traffickers. He warned that drug abuse is destroying families and endangering the state’s youth.
Experts note that unchecked drug circulation threatens both individual lives and community stability. Citizens and officials must work together to curb the problem. Communities need education, vigilance, and support programs to protect youths from addiction.
The growing crisis in Haryana signals the urgent need for action. Authorities must implement real measures to reduce drug supply and addiction. Surjewala’s warning underscores the human cost of government inaction.
