UP SIR 18% names removed from draft voter list after Uttar Pradesh completed its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The updated draft shows that nearly 2.89 crore voter names were deleted, which is about 18 percent of the earlier list. This figure is much higher than Bihar, where only around 8 percent of names were removed during a similar process.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh had nearly 15.44 crore registered voters. After the revision, the draft list now includes about 12.55 crore voters. Election officials said the revision aimed to clean the rolls and remove incorrect entries.
According to officials, many names belonged to people who had died, shifted permanently to other places, or appeared more than once on the list. Booth-level officers verified data during door-to-door checks to improve accuracy.
The Election Commission has invited claims and objections from citizens. Voters who find their names missing can apply for correction or re-inclusion within the given deadline.
The final voter list will be published after reviewing all objections. The commission says the exercise will help ensure free, fair, and transparent elections in the state.
